Man Released Under Investigation After A1 Crash That Killed Northumberland Couple

Police investigators are seeking dashcam footage to establish how the A1 collision occurred.

  • Northumbria Police said a man in his 30s arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released under investigation.
  • Christine Routledge, 66, and Stephen Routledge, 64, from Berwick, died after their Skoda was involved in a collision near Buckton at about 7:40am on January 14, and their dog also died.
  • Officers reported that a northbound HGV collided with the couple’s Skoda and an Audi that were traveling on the southbound carriageway.
  • The HGV driver, in his 30s, and the Audi driver, in his 50s, were treated in hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening and were later discharged.
