Overview
- The attacks happened on 27 October 2025 when Dawood Safi first stabbed his landlord at home and then pursued and fatally stabbed 49-year-old dog walker Wayne Broadhurst nearby.
- Safi pleaded guilty on 13 July 2026 to manslaughter by diminished responsibility after four psychiatrists concluded he was suffering psychotic depression that substantially impaired his judgment.
- A jury at Southwark Crown Court convicted Safi on 16 July 2026 of attempted murder for the attack on his landlord, the jury failed to reach a verdict on the teenage victim’s attempted murder count and the CPS declined to seek a retrial.
- Two other people were hurt in the incident: the landlord suffered life-changing injuries and a teenage boy received non-life-threatening wounds for which Safi earlier pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
- Safi remains remanded in a secure hospital and will be sentenced on 5 October 2026, with the diminished-responsibility plea meaning the killing is treated as manslaughter rather than murder and psychiatric reports will inform disposal.
