Overview
- Richard Clayton strangled his 74-year-old mother, Angela Clayton, inside their St George’s Square home on 17 February and then called 999 to report the killing.
- Officers and the London Ambulance Service arrived at 12:48pm and Angela was found in her bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene.
- Clayton was arrested, taken into custody, and during interviews alternated between answering 'no comment' and pretending to sleep before being charged with murder on 18 February.
- At the Old Bailey on Monday, 13 July, Clayton pleaded guilty to murder and he will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 22 September.
- Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke led the Met investigation, the victim’s family thanked police and asked for privacy as they grieve, and the Metropolitan Police urged anyone affected by violence to seek support.
