Man Jailed for Life Over Greenwich Murder of Ex-Partner

The sentence follows an Old Bailey trial in which prosecutors used digital forensics, CCTV and purchases to argue the killing was planned.

Overview

  • Yurii Muzyka was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 30 years on Friday, May 29, 2026, after jurors at the Old Bailey found him guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • On 27 August 2025 Muzyka forced his way into Halyna Hoisan’s flat in Greenwich, stabbed her six times as their young daughter slept in another room, and filmed a selfie video next to her as she lay dying.
  • Hoisan had left Muzyka in April 2025, reported stalking and harassment, found a tracker on their daughter’s scooter, and secured a non-molestation order on 20 August 2025 a week before the killing.
  • Investigators relied on phone and CCTV forensics showing Muzyka bought a knife hours before the attack, made internet searches about vulnerable body areas, and kept extensive images of knives, masks and anatomy that the court cited as evidence of planning.
  • The Metropolitan Police described the case as an appalling example of violence against women and girls, the victim’s family asked for privacy, and the force said the conviction underscores broader rises in arrests and charges for such offences in London.
