Overview
- A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court convicted Tanveer Singh of murdering 41-year-old Shara Millar and Judge Michael Chambers sentenced him to life with a minimum term of 29 years.
- Prosecutors said Singh picked Ms Millar up from the street, took her to the back of his van on an isolated industrial road and closed the doors so she was effectively trapped during a sexual encounter that turned violent.
- Forensic evidence and the judge's findings show Ms Millar died of prolonged strangulation and suffered an unusual number of neck fractures plus head and face injuries consistent with heavy blows.
- After the killing Singh moved the victim’s clothing, left her partly undressed by a pile of rubbish on Woodburn Road and poured AdBlue (diesel exhaust fluid) over her in an apparent attempt to destroy traces before returning home and later removing items from his van.
- The court heard that Ms Millar was a vulnerable sex worker with drug dependence and family loss, a detail used in victim impact statements and cited by police when urging better support and safer reporting routes for women in sex work.
