Man in Penn Station Stabbings Indicted on 18 Felony Counts

The Manhattan District Attorney says state prosecutors will move the case forward after the June 7 attack that injured seven commuters.

Overview

  • Prosecutors say the attack took place in the NJ Transit area of Penn Station at about 7:00 p.m. on June 7 when a man allegedly produced a fixed-blade knife and stabbed multiple commuters.
  • On June 29 the Manhattan DA announced a New York State Supreme Court indictment charging Hector Deleon with 18 felonies, including seven counts of attempted murder and multiple assault counts.
  • Court filings allege the attacks moved through the station and left seven people wounded, with at least one victim suffering a traumatic brain injury and others treated at hospitals.
  • Amtrak police and several bystanders are credited with subduing and apprehending the suspect when he attempted to flee, a response the DA publicly thanked in announcing the indictment.
  • The case is being prosecuted by a team of assigned assistant district attorneys, the charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent as the state builds its case and the prosecution continues.
