Overview
- Fire crews, alerted by neighbors, arrived just after 1 p.m. Saturday at a single-family home on the 2000 block of 28th Avenue South.
- During a primary search on the second floor, firefighters found a man in his 60s dead, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify him.
- Heavy debris inside the home slowed access to the upstairs, and crews needed about 40 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.
- No one else was found or hurt, and Minneapolis Animal Care and Control took in a dog found outside the home.
- Officials said this is Minneapolis’s second fire death of the year and urged residents to test smoke alarms and check home fire extinguishers.
