Man in His 20s Killed When Trench Collapses Near Rochester

Investigators are probing the cause of the collapse after emergency crews recovered the victim.

  • Local deputies and emergency crews responded to the 6000 block of County Road 108 SW in Rock Dell Township after a trench collapsed and a man in his 20s was trapped.
  • The Stewartville and Rochester fire departments, Stewartville first responders, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Mayo One and Olmsted County deputies all took part in the rescue and recovery effort.
  • Responders recovered the victim from the trench and he was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
  • The victim’s name has not been released and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation into what caused the collapse.
