Overview
- Northumbria Police, alerted around 6am Wednesday to a welfare concern near the A183 Coast Road, said a van had gone over the cliffs onto the beach below.
- After a multi-agency search, officers confirmed the body of a man in his 20s was found and his next of kin informed.
- Tynemouth RNLI, HM Coastguard, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue, the North East Ambulance Service and police worked together on the shoreline response.
- Police say enquiries continue but they do not currently suspect foul play.
