Man Held in Custody After Two Women Attacked in Rochdale Parks

Police say CCTV led officers to a suspect and they are urging the public to hand over any footage to help ongoing enquiries.

Overview

  • Two separate sexual assaults were reported in Broadfield Park and Milnrow Memorial Park on Saturday morning, roughly 90 minutes apart.
  • Greater Manchester Police say both victims gave similar descriptions and that CCTV showed a man leaving the Coco/Ko-Ko Lounge at about 5am wearing smart dark clothing and carrying a briefcase.
  • A man in his 20s has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of two counts of attempted rape while detectives pursue multiple lines of enquiry.
  • Officers have increased patrols in the parks and Rochdale town centre and are asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage to contact GMP or Crimestoppers.
  • One national outlet has reported that a 23-year-old named Harvey Symes has been charged, a detail not uniformly confirmed by police, and specialist officers are supporting the two victims as enquiries continue.
