Man Found Dead After Cross‑Border Police Pursuit

NSW Police seized a firearm and opened a Richmond critical incident investigation subject to Professional Standards Command review, LECC oversight, reporting to the coroner.

Overview

  • Officers found a man unconscious in his Ford utility and he was pronounced dead at the scene after a pursuit that began on the Gold Coast and continued into northern NSW.
  • Queensland police first received reports in Robina late on Saturday and officers say the vehicle crossed the state line around 1am Sunday before NSW Police located it at Banora Point.
  • NSW officers pursued the vehicle through several suburbs, deployed road spikes twice at South Murwillumbah, and it finally stopped down an embankment on Kyogle Road at Kunghur where negotiators and officers approached the car.
  • A firearm was seized from the vehicle and has been taken for forensic examination while the man, believed to be a 25‑year‑old from Queensland, has not yet been formally identified.
  • A Richmond Police District critical incident team will lead the probe, a report will be prepared for the NSW Coroner, and the case will be independently reviewed by the Professional Standards Command with LECC oversight.
