Man Escapes From Prison Transport Outside Liverpool Magistrates' Court

Merseyside Police have launched a citywide manhunt to find the escapee.

Overview

  • Stephen Grzyb, 22, escaped Saturday while being moved from Belle Vale custody suite to Liverpool Magistrates Court and ran down Red Cross Street toward The Strand.
  • Merseyside Police deployed foot patrols, carried out citywide CCTV checks and issued incident reference 26000615520 while appealing for immediate sightings by calling 999, 101 or Crimestoppers.
  • Officers say Grzyb is white with short dark hair and was last seen wearing a navy T-shirt and navy shorts; he was charged with a domestic-related burglary before his escape.
  • Police officers visited the alleged victim's home to ensure her safety and warned the public not to assist the suspect because doing so could bring legal and safety risks.
  • The transfer was handled by contractor GEOAmey and the escape has prompted scrutiny of prisoner transport procedures and how handovers are managed between custody suites and courts.
