Overview
- Emergency services were called at about 08:15–08:17 on Wednesday after a silver Mercedes CLS220 left the road and struck a tree on Yarm Road in Eaglescliffe.
- A 56-year-old man who was driving was pronounced dead at the scene, Cleveland Police confirmed.
- Police say the collision is believed to have happened during a medical episode and they are carrying out enquiries to confirm the cause.
- Two ambulance crews and a duty officer were dispatched and a Great North Air Ambulance critical care team arrived by helicopter, while Cleveland Fire Brigade sent two engines from Thornaby.
- The A135 was closed for around two hours during the morning rush between nearby junctions, causing local delays, and police and the family thanked members of the public who performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
