- Police say the man who ran from an assault outside the Salty Seal Pub jumped from a second-story patio during a foot chase early Saturday.
- Officers lost sight of him near 425 Cannery Row before hotel staff later found video showing someone go over a Monterey Plaza Hotel balcony at about 1:10 a.m.
- Following that video review Saturday morning, search teams called in a Monterey Fire Department fireboat and located the man around 11:53 a.m. beneath the promenade with severe injuries.
- He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
