Man Dies After Fight at St Minver Holiday Park

A mandatory referral has prompted the IOPC to open an early-stage probe to examine police contact with the injured man plus the medical care officers provided

Overview

  • Devon and Cornwall Police were called to St Minver Holiday Park after a physical altercation between two men on Saturday 30 May and found a man in his 50s with life-threatening injuries.
  • Officers gave first aid and an ambulance was called at about 8:25pm that night; the injured man was taken to Treliske Hospital in Truro and died on Monday 1 June.
  • A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and has been released on bail until 21 August while criminal enquiries continue.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which has begun an early-stage independent investigation into officers' interactions with the man and the medical care provided by police.
  • Witnesses reported a visible police and forensic presence at the holiday park, Parkdean has been contacted for comment, and the IOPC says it will contact the deceased man's family to explain its role.
