Man Dies After Falling From Footbridge onto A27 in Hove

Sussex Police have opened Operation Lanyard to investigate the death, asking witnesses to contact them and quote serial 341 of 06/06 when providing information.

Overview

  • Emergency services were called to the A27 near the Dyke Road roundabouts in Hove on Saturday after reports that a pedestrian had fallen from a footbridge and been struck by a car.
  • On arrival officers found a 59-year-old local man who was declared dead at the scene and whose next of kin have been informed.
  • The A27 was closed in both directions for several hours to allow forensic and investigatory work and it reopened just before 6pm.
  • Sussex Police say the death is not believed to be suspicious and have launched Operation Lanyard to establish the exact sequence of events around the fall and collision.
