Overview
- Emergency services were called to the A27 near the Dyke Road roundabouts in Hove on Saturday after reports that a pedestrian had fallen from a footbridge and been struck by a car.
- On arrival officers found a 59-year-old local man who was declared dead at the scene and whose next of kin have been informed.
- The A27 was closed in both directions for several hours to allow forensic and investigatory work and it reopened just before 6pm.
- Sussex Police say the death is not believed to be suspicious and have launched Operation Lanyard to establish the exact sequence of events around the fall and collision.
- Police have issued a public appeal for witnesses to contact them online or via 101 quoting serial 341 of 06/06 so inquiries can progress and any relevant footage or observations can be checked.
