Overview
- Shuja Gibraeel Mohsin was found guilty on Friday, June 19 after a two-week trial at the Old Bailey for possessing and sharing Islamist terrorist material.
- He was convicted of one count under section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for possession of a bomb‑making document and two counts under section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 for disseminating Daesh execution videos.
- Police stopped Mohsin at Heathrow in January 2024 under a Schedule 7 power, seized his phone and a USB stick, and later forensically examined a computer seized after his March 2024 arrest.
- Investigators say the devices showed he joined extremist group chats and had been viewing material linked to the Taliban, Hamas and Daesh, and CTP London warned he had been drawn in from about age 14 or 15.
- Mohsin will be sentenced on 14 August and the case underlines how digital forensics and existing terrorism laws are being used to tackle online radicalisation and to urge parents to monitor children’s internet use.
