Man Climbs Onto Vueling Jet at Valencia Airport, Delaying Amsterdam Flight

He now faces a denunciation under Spain's aviation security law.

Overview

  • An unauthorized individual accessed the Manises airfield on Saturday evening and spent about ten minutes on the roof of a Vueling Airbus A320 before coming down at the urging of Guardia Civil officers.
  • Airport medics provided first aid, and he was transported by ambulance to the psychiatric unit at Valencia General Hospital for evaluation.
  • Aena said passenger safety was not at risk and overall airport operations continued normally.
  • The Valencia–Amsterdam flight departed on a different aircraft after a delay of roughly two to two and a half hours, with takeoff around 21:00.
  • Vueling maintenance inspected the aircraft and reported no damage, and the Guardia Civil initiated proceedings for the security breach.
