Man Claims Fiancée Died by Self-Harm as Police Probe Joondalup Death

Detectives continue a coronial-led inquiry with no charges linking the man to the death.

Overview

  • Paramedics in Joondalup reported Wednesday morning that a man carried a woman to their stretcher on Grand Boulevard, and they found she was already deceased.
  • WA Police cordoned the area and collected CCTV from nearby buildings, later seizing an ambulance for forensic testing as detectives also raided a Merriwa home.
  • Luke Ritchie, 35, was located later Wednesday and charged with unrelated drug, weapon and driving offences after officers took him into custody.
  • In court Thursday, Ritchie said the woman was his fiancée and claimed she died by self-harm, and his bail application on the new charges was refused.
  • The Coronial Investigation Unit is still determining cause of death, and police say there is no community threat and ask for dash‑cam or CCTV from 9:30am to 9:45am on Grand Boulevard.
