Man Charged With Murder of Anthony Long in West Dublin

The court granted legal aid so the defence can commission an independent pathology report as Gardaí continue their investigation.

Overview

  • Darren McNamee, 43, was charged with Anthony Long’s murder and remanded in custody after a district court appearance on Wednesday.
  • Mr Long was seriously injured near his home on Parlickstown Drive on July 3 and died in hospital two days later.
  • Garda Shane Woods told the court he arrested McNamee at about 3:50am on July 15 and that the accused made no reply when charged nine minutes later.
  • Judge David McHugh authorised free legal aid so the defence can obtain an independent forensic pathology report, a move that highlights ongoing questions about cause of death.
  • McNamee will attend a further hearing by video link at Cloverhill next week and Gardaí continue to gather forensic evidence as the inquiry explores whether others were involved.
