Overview
- Officers found 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur with fatal stab injuries at a house on Uxbridge Road and pronounced her dead after arriving at the scene.
- A 44-year-old man, Daniel Sean James, was arrested nearby, charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article, and remanded in custody.
- Prosecutors at the Old Bailey have set a plea hearing for October 1 and a provisional three-week trial from April 5 after presenting an account that an intruder allegedly forced entry, killed Kaur as she slept, then stabbed an unrelated man in the street before injuring himself while fleeing.
- Police say their enquiries are at an early stage and that they do not believe there is a wider public threat but they are keeping an open mind about motive as they follow forensic and CCTV lines of inquiry.
- Kaur’s family and local Sikh groups have urged repatriation of her body, organised fundraising to support her newborn and raised fears the attack could be racially motivated against a backdrop of heightened concern about anti-Sikh incidents in the UK.
