Overview
- A verbal fight inside a homeless encampment at Butler Metro Park resulted in a chest stabbing that killed 38-year-old Vincent Bort, police say, in what occurred Sunday.
- Thirty-year-old Micah Delaney called 911 about 10 minutes after officers were first alerted, was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with First Degree Murder.
- Delaney told homicide detectives he was attacked, that a bright flashlight blinded him, and that he grabbed a sculpting tool or knife and stabbed Bort once in the chest in self-defense.
- An encampment witness gave investigators a different account, saying Bort showed no weapon or flashlight and that Bort said “No weapons” shortly before the stabbing.
- APD Homicide and forensic teams are processing the scene, the case is logged as Austin’s 37th homicide of 2026, and police have asked the public to submit tips as prosecutors and detectives build the evidence for court.
