Overview
- Police say the sequence began with a crash at Woodhaven Drive and Blue Hill Avenue on Saturday before the driver allegedly forcefully took another vehicle at a nearby car wash and fled south on Blue Hill Avenue.
- While driving the stolen car, the suspect drove on the wrong side and onto the sidewalk where he struck a woman near Fairway/Fairhaven Street who was later pronounced dead at the scene; authorities are withholding her name pending an autopsy and family notification.
- Bystanders and an MBTA bus driver are reported to have stopped the suspect after he crashed into additional vehicles and an MBTA bus, and several people restrained him until officers arrived.
- Boston police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Ibraim Matos of Hyde Park and announced charges including murder, carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and leaving the scene resulting in personal injury; he is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
- A separate arrest was made of 21-year-old Robert Monestime for entering the taped-off crime scene and interfering with officers, the Blue Hill Avenue stretch was closed for investigation and has since reopened, and neighbors say the episode left the community shaken as the probe continues.
