Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Covington Restaurant Stabbing

Authorities say the arrest at a nearby library removes any ongoing threat to the public.

Overview

  • The stabbing, which occurred Thursday at the Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken on Scott Street, left an employee injured and prompted a police response at about 1:30 p.m.
  • Covington police identified the suspect as 29-year-old James L. Bonar and say he fled to a nearby Kenton County library, where officers detained and interviewed him.
  • Bonar has been charged with attempted murder, was booked at the Kenton County Detention Center and is held on a $100,000 cash bond with pretrial conditions set by a judge.
  • The injured employee was taken to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds, and two sources told WLWT the worker has since lost their job.
  • Police describe the incident as isolated, have asked the public for tips, and investigators continue to review the arrest citation’s allegations as the case moves toward further court proceedings.
