Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Aberystwyth Car Crash

Overview

• Owen Rhys-Jones, 24, was charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving and controlling and coercive behaviour after a single-vehicle collision.
• The crash on the A44 near Capel Bangor, which happened on Tuesday, June 30 at about 8.50pm, is alleged by prosecutors to have involved intentionally driving into a BT telegraph pole while his ex-partner was in the car.
• Rhys-Jones appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court, did not enter a plea, was remanded in custody and the magistrates sent the case to Crown Court with a provisional hearing set for August 3.
• Dyfed-Powys Police’s crime investigation department and major crime team are leading the inquiry and have appealed for witnesses and mobile-phone, dashcam or other footage using reference DP-20260630-390.
• The charges combine violent and domestic-abuse allegations and, beyond the immediate criminal case, the Crown Court hearings will determine whether prosecutors can prove the claim that the collision was an attempted killing.
