Overview
- Police executed a search warrant in Marayong on Wednesday and arrested a 35-year-old man who has been charged over the alleged theft of camera equipment from slain photographer Peter Meagher.
- Officers seized a camera, handcuffs, multiple electronic devices and a small amount of white crystal powder during searches of the home and a vehicle.
- The man faces charges that include larceny, disposing of stolen property, furnishing false information, possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit and drug offences, and he was granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on June 22.
- Police will allege the accused worked as a photographer at the Chanukah by the Sea event, that he took Meagher’s kit in the chaos after the December 14 attack and pawned it days later, and Meagher’s widow publicly appealed for the camera in March.
- The theft allegation is being handled as part of ongoing inquiries into the December 14 Bondi Beach massacre that killed 15 people and sits alongside continuing terrorism prosecutions and a public inquiry into the attack.
