Man Charged Over 1,035 Silent Calls to Singapore Police Hotlines

The court ordered a mental health evaluation to assess the accused.

  • He made 1,035 silent calls between Apr 21 and Apr 28 to neighbourhood police centre landlines in Yishun, Bedok, Geylang and Ang Mo Kio North, including 425 to Yishun.
  • Charge sheets say the calls obstructed 19 police team leaders who supervise front-counter operations at those centres.
  • Officers from Woodlands Police Division identified and arrested him on May 11 after he used a foreign number and a SIM card registered to another person to hide his identity.
  • Police said they will prosecute silent or false callers, and the charges carry maximum penalties of up to six months’ jail or a S$2,500 fine for obstruction and up to three years’ jail or a S$10,000 fine for SIM misuse.
