Man Charged in Brooklyn Park Hit-and-Run That Killed 25-Year-Old Woman

Forensic matches of vehicle parts to a Toyota RAV4 led prosecutors to file vehicular homicide charges.

Overview

  • Police say a woman was struck and killed while standing beside a car on Highway 252 during an argument in the early hours of Tuesday.
  • The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as 25-year-old Amiah Walker and found her dead at the scene.
  • Investigators recovered vehicle fragments that they say matched a dark gray Toyota RAV4 and used nearby video to track a similar vehicle and obtain a license plate.
  • Officers located a damaged RAV4 later that night in Ramsey with 23-year-old Ryant Tarnue Freeman inside; Freeman denied hitting anyone, told police the damage predated the crash or that the car may have been stolen, and had been stopped earlier that day without front-end damage.
  • Prosecutors have filed criminal vehicular homicide charges against Freeman but he remains hospitalized and not yet in custody as authorities seek a warrant to arrest him after his discharge.
