Man Charged After Teen Girl Stabbed in Neck on Lancashire Street

The suspect has been remanded to custody pending further court hearings.

Overview

  • Lancashire Police say a 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the back of the neck on Wood Street in Brierfield on Friday and was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
  • Officers arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene shortly after the attack and, following Crown Prosecution Service advice, charged him with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.
  • The suspect, named in court as Junaid Nawaz of Livingstone Walk, was remanded from Blackburn Magistrates' Court and sent to appear next at Preston Crown Court in July.
  • Police have appealed for witnesses and for any CCTV or doorbell footage to support the active investigation and have deployed extra patrols in the area to reassure residents.
  • The attack occurred in a week that included other high-profile knife incidents, which has increased public concern and left local leaders urging people to stick to confirmed facts while detectives gather evidence.
