Man Charged After Suspected MDMA Seized in M62 Van Stop

Police say the stop was part of Operation Medusa targeting County Lines.

Overview

  • Officers conducting a documentation check at Junction 7 of the M62 searched a Ford Transit and found multiple kilos of suspected MDMA powder and thousands of pills.
  • The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and for driving while disqualified.
  • Following further enquiries, Darren McDonnell, 41, of Edgemoor Drive in Crosby, was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs, disqualified driving and using a vehicle without insurance.
  • He was remanded in custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court as the seized substances move to forensic testing to confirm their makeup.
  • Police said the stop formed part of a joint effort by the Matrix Roads Policing Unit and Operation Medusa, a Merseyside initiative that disrupts County Lines networks that move drugs along major routes.
