Overview
- Lancashire Constabulary received a report shortly before 12:55am on Monday and arrested a 21-year-old man from Darwen who remains in custody on suspicion of rape.
- A woman in her 20s is the alleged victim and is being supported by specially trained officers while the investigation continues.
- Officers cordoned a small wooded area behind Grade II‑listed tram shelters at the foot of Belgrave Road and kept a police presence in the town centre.
- Police have asked anyone with information or dashcam or CCTV footage to call 101 quoting log 0059 of 25 May and say neighbourhood patrols have been increased to reassure the public.
- Darwen had been busy over the preceding weekend for the Music Live festival and investigators say footage and witness accounts from that period may be important to enquiries.
