Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder in 2000 Killing of Vicky Glass

Cleveland Police say the arrest may reopen a cold inquiry as officers prepare to interview the suspect who is being held in Lancashire custody.

Overview

  • Cleveland Police confirmed on Friday, June 12 that a 65-year-old man was arrested in the Lancashire area on suspicion of murder and remains in Lancashire custody to be interviewed by their officers.
  • Vicky Glass, then 21, was last seen at about 4am on 24 September 2000 after leaving a taxi on Union Street in Middlesbrough and her body was found in a stream near Danby on 3 November 2000.
  • The long-running inquiry has previously produced several arrests but no charges, and police say this latest arrest is part of an active investigation rather than a charge being filed.
  • Vicky’s family have kept the case in the public eye with repeated appeals, including a 25th-anniversary appeal in September 2025, and they have urged anyone with information to come forward.
  • Police ask anyone with information to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or the dedicated inquiry line on 01642 301773, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
