Man Arrested in Tampines After Airsoft Shot Injures Another

Seizure of numerous replica firearms and prohibited items has led police to charge the suspect under laws that allow prison, caning or fines.

Overview

  • A 38-year-old man was arrested after an alleged airsoft shot wounded a 37-year-old man in the ear and forehead following a call for help at Tampines Street 81 about 7.36pm on Tuesday, June 30.
  • Officers from the Bedok Police Division used police cameras, CCTV and follow-up investigations to identify and detain the suspect later that same day.
  • Police recovered a substantial cache from the suspect’s unit, including several airsoft guns, ammunition, airsoft parts, a knuckle duster and a suspected stun device.
  • The man will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and may face additional counts under weapons-control laws that carry up to seven years’ jail, caning or fines.
  • The suspect has been remanded for a mental-health assessment and the case will return to court on July 15 while authorities remind the public that replica and stun devices are regulated and often require a police licence.
