Man Arrested in 2017 Simi Valley 'Scream' Mask Attack

New photos were released to prompt public tips to identify co-suspects or other victims as prosecutors move the case toward trial.

Overview

  • A woman walking to work was attacked by several men wearing 'Scream' (Ghostface) masks and held at knifepoint on Sept. 21, 2017, and she called 911 after the suspects fled.
  • Ventura County District Attorney investigators identified and arrested Ricardo Jimenez-Garcia on Sept. 9, 2026, and prosecutors have filed multiple felony sexual-assault charges linked to the case.
  • Officials say the charges connect Jimenez-Garcia to the 2017 Simi Valley attack and to a separate alleged sexual assault from 2008.
  • On Oct. 23, 2026, the DA’s office released new photos of the suspect and asked anyone who recognizes him or witnessed the attack to contact Investigator Yumi Kirk at (805) 477-1638.
  • The case advanced after work by the Ventura County Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, which re-examines untested kits and cold cases, and authorities say the probe is ongoing and may involve additional victims and unidentified co-suspects.
