Man Arrested and Charged After Fatal Shooting During Child Custody Exchange

Harris County detectives say the killing grew out of a custody handoff and is now an active homicide case.

Overview

  • Investigators say the shooting took place Tuesday in the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court during a child custody exchange when a man rushed out and fired at the other parent.
  • Authorities identified the victim as 36-year-old Marlon Sanders and the suspect as 38-year-old Gary Davis, who was arrested, charged with murder, and booked into the Harris County Jail.
  • Officials say the incident involved a domestic history in which Sanders’s wife had a prior relationship with Davis and the child at the center of the exchange was fathered by Davis.
  • Harris County Precinct 3 deputies, HCSO crime-scene investigators, and homicide detectives processed the scene, no other injuries were reported, and Sanders was taken to a hospital where he later died.
  • The homicide investigation is ongoing and criminal proceedings are pending as detectives continue to collect evidence and the county works toward prosecution.
