Man Arrested and Charged After Dorm Incidents at Harvard and MIT

Investigators used a Department of Homeland Security biometric match with campus surveillance and vehicle tracking to identify a suspect who has been charged.

Overview

  • Multiple encounters on May 19 included an attempted follow at Peabody Terrace, an alleged assault inside Lowell House, and a similar approach at an MIT residence.
  • Authorities arrested 31-year-old Arthur O. Krogman on May 27 and he pleaded not guilty at arraignment while facing kidnapping, indecent assault and battery, breaking and entering, and related felony counts.
  • Investigators say they linked the scenes using surveillance images, a green New Hampshire Subaru Outback seen at both campuses, and a DHS biometric query that returned an Instagram lacrosse photo later confirmed by a former coach.
  • The Lowell House victim reported being grabbed and having her mouth covered but suffered no physical injuries, a second person reported an earlier Peabody Terrace encounter only after the campus alert, and police say they do not believe there is an ongoing community threat.
  • Krogman will remain held until a dangerousness hearing on June 5, prosecutors said more charges may follow, and the cases have renewed campus focus on building access, tailgating risks, and patrols.
