- A video posted to TikTok on May 27 showed a man appearing to pour a detergent-like liquid from a squeeze bottle onto a plate of sushi at a Hama-Sushi conveyor-belt restaurant in Saitama Prefecture.
- Police identified the poster as 43-year-old Yuta Shinnishi of Moroyama and arrested him on suspicion of obstructing business operations after he admitted the act to investigators.
- Zensho Holdings, the Tokyo-based operator of Hama-Sushi, notified police, condemned the action as unacceptable, is cooperating with the probe, and has said it may seek damages in civil court.
