Man Arrested After Stealing Kitten and Attempting to Rob Maryland Bank

A fast arrest returned the kitten to a local rescue pending an ongoing investigation.

Overview

  • Security video and witness accounts show a man taking a 3–3.5-month-old tuxedo kitten from the adoption area of a Pet Supplies Plus and running across the shopping center to a nearby PNC Bank on Monday morning.
  • Store employees said the suspect had visited the shop repeatedly and used a hanging key to open the adoption enclosure, which police and staff say suggests prior targeting of the animal.
  • Inside the bank the man reportedly asked an employee to hold the kitten, handed a teller a handwritten note demanding cash, and was taken into custody by Prince George’s County officers minutes later.
  • The kitten, named Magnolia, was recovered unharmed and returned to Beltsville Community Cats, which says Magnolia is now in its care and available for adoption.
  • Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity, no injuries were reported, and investigators are examining the theft and attempted robbery while the rescue manages the kitten’s welfare and adoption interest.
