Overview
- JetBlue Move Team employees found 32-year-old Sammuel P. Lackey asleep in the aft lavatory during a routine interior inspection on Sunday, and Broward deputies arrested him at the JetScape maintenance site.
- Investigators say surveillance showed a man matching Lackey’s description near the hangar at 9:51 p.m., and that he climbed an airport fence, used portable maintenance stairs and entered through an unlocked rear door.
- Booking and court records show Lackey faces charges of burglary of a conveyance, criminal mischief and interruption of critical infrastructure, and he is held at Broward County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
- JetBlue reported the discovery forced a flight to be delayed and another aircraft to be used, with the carrier estimating the interruption at $2,400.96 and the sheriff’s report noting $200 or more in labor costs.
- Local authorities say the Broward Aviation Department, the FBI and the TSA are cooperating in the probe while JetBlue and JetScape have said they will assist investigators as officials review perimeter and ground-access security.
