Overview
- A Skoda Octavia and a Peugeot 3008 crashed head on on Middridge Road in Newton Aycliffe on Saturday night, and North East Ambulance Service sent five ambulances and a clinical team leader as five people went to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
- The Peugeot driver, 54, remains in a life-threatening condition at the hospital.
- Police arrested the Skoda driver, 31, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, and possession of a controlled drug, and he is in custody.
- Investigators say the cars are believed to have been traveling in opposite directions before the collision.
- Durham Constabulary asked witnesses to call 101 quoting incident 453 of April 4 or to email sciu@durham.police.uk with dashcam footage.
