Man and Teen Charged With Murder Over Death of 12-Year-Old in Essex

Essex Police describe a complex Serious Crime Directorate inquiry that alleges a car chase and assault and that is still seeking CCTV and witness information.

Overview

  • Essex Police charged 43-year-old William Lunnon and a 15-year-old with murder after 12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield was found with serious injuries and later died following a collision on Ashwells Road, Pilgrims Hatch on Sunday, June 7.
  • Prosecutors told magistrates they allege the teenager drove a car that struck Bobby during a chase and that the teen and Lunnon then assaulted him before leaving him at the roadside; those allegations were presented at the defendants' first court hearings.
  • Both defendants were remanded pending Crown Court proceedings with the pair due to enter pleas in August and a provisional trial date set for November 9.
  • Investigators from the Serious Crime Directorate have arrested four more local people on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and are urging residents to check CCTV and come forward with any information.
  • Bobby’s family and his school have issued tributes and are being supported by specially trained officers while the force continues evidence gathering and searches that could shape further charges or disclosure before the plea hearing.
