Man and Girlfriend Found Dead After Hours-Long Houston Standoff

Harris County officials identified the 23-year-old suspect, Caleb Green, with autopsies planned to determine causes of death.

Overview

  • Deputies responded after a frantic 911 call just before 2 p.m. Monday reporting the man had “accidentally shot his girlfriend.”
  • Officers made contact but the 23-year-old suspect, identified by the Harris County Sheriff's Office as Caleb Green, refused commands and barricaded himself inside for several hours.
  • Crisis negotiators and a SWAT team engaged the suspect, deployed gas into the unit during the standoff, and later found Green on the apartment balcony with a self-inflicted gunshot wound while no deputies fired their weapons.
  • Both Green and the 20-year-old woman were found dead inside the apartment and the woman has not been publicly identified pending autopsies to confirm official causes of death.
  • Investigators say Green had recent personal losses and relationship problems with the victim, the probe remains open, and officials have said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
