Overview
- Officers were called shortly after 6pm on Sunday, February 8, to reports of a man in the water at Khyber Pass in Whitby.
- Members of the public recovered the man from the sea before emergency crews reached the scene.
- Despite efforts by fire, coastguard, RNLI, ambulance and air ambulance teams, he was pronounced dead at the location.
- Formal identification is pending, but the family of a 75-year-old man from Middlesbrough have been informed.
- North Yorkshire Police will prepare a report for the coroner and thanked those who risked their safety to try to save him.
