Overview
- Malba confirmed a gala on 19 September 2026 and a public run from 20 September 2026 through 15 March 2027 for Viva Frida, part of the museum’s 25th anniversary program.
- Organizers will display 365 personal items from the Casa Azul cache, including traditional dresses, jewelry, orthopedic corsets, cosmetics and studio tools to show how clothing and objects shaped Kahlo’s image.
- The material culture will be shown in direct dialogue with key Malba–Costantini paintings, notably Autorretrato con chango y loro (1942) and Diego y yo (1949), to link Kahlo’s belongings to her self-portraits.
- The exhibition includes a tested interactive hologram that recreates Kahlo and lets up to two visitors ask it questions in an intimate space, and it was curated by Circe Henestrosa with collaboration from Gannit Ankori under a three-and-a-half-year partnership led by SAC and the Museo Frida Kahlo de México.
- As part of the exchange, five Malba/Costantini works will travel to the Casa Azul next year and the show builds on the Casa Azul material first revealed in 2004 to advance cultural exchange and an international tour schedule.
