Overview
- Orang Asli villagers from Lubuk Gaharu located 49-year-old Jaslinda Saludin near a river and brought her to the village on Saturday, June 6, before she was handed to health officials.
- Jaslinda said she went without food for about two weeks and only ate after being found, while officials said she survived periods with little or no clean water by drinking dew, river water and fluids from pitcher plants.
- She was part of a 14-person group on the Trans Spencer Chapman trek that began on May 23 and was last seen on May 24 after leaving a rest camp during an ascent of Gunung Batu Putih.
- Rescue teams, including the Perak Fire and Rescue Department and mountain guides, repeatedly searched the area but struggled with valleys, waterfalls and soft ground that made parts of the zone hard to reach.
- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and officials thanked volunteers and the Orang Asli community for their role, and the case may prompt reviews of search tactics that better use local knowledge in rugged terrain.
