Malaysia Unveils Time-Tiered Traffic Summons Discounts Starting Jan. 1, 2026

The reform standardises incentives with uniform enforcement across police and JPJ to replace ad hoc campaigns.

Overview

  • Offenders who settle compoundable summonses within 1–15 days will receive a 50% reduction, and payments made between days 16–30 get 33% off.
  • No discounts apply for payments made on days 31–60, with court action or blacklisting initiated from day 61 onward for unpaid compounds.
  • Serious or non-compoundable offences, such as driving without insurance or using fake documents, are excluded from all discounts.
  • A transition window runs from Nov. 1 through December 2025 with temporary offers of up to 70% to clear existing JPJ and PDRM compoundable summonses.
  • Officials cited RM640 million collected since 2022 under past police campaigns and RM6.6 billion still outstanding as the impetus for the standardised approach.
