Majority of Brazilians Back U.S. Terror Label for PCC and CV but Reject U.S. Action on Brazilian Soil

Overview

  • The Datafolha poll published June 23 found 59% of respondents support labeling the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) as terrorist organizations.
  • The same survey showed 74% oppose any U.S. operations against faction members inside Brazil without authorization from the federal government.
  • Datafolha interviewed 2,004 people on June 17–18 across 139 municipalities with a margin of error of ±2 points; 83% said they knew about the U.S. action and 35% felt well informed.
  • Fifty-four percent of respondents believe Senator Flávio Bolsonaro influenced the U.S. decision after meeting President Trump, and a majority of those view his role as negative for Brazil.
  • The U.S. announced the designation on May 29 and it took effect June 5, prompting the Lula government to call the move a threat to sovereignty and raising concerns about possible sanctions, legal steps, and diplomatic fallout.
