Overview
- South Western Railway has scheduled engineering in the New Malden area for Saturday and Sunday, June 27–28, that will extend mainline journeys between London (Waterloo) and destinations such as Bournemouth and Weymouth by about 30 to 45 minutes.
- SWR warned that services and stations across the south coast are expected to be very busy and urged passengers to check routes before travelling and allow extra time to board.
- Stuart Meek, SWR and Network Rail Wessex chief operating officer, advised travellers to bring a bottle of water, not to board if feeling unwell, and to plan for significantly busier trains.
- Unused tickets for services between Tuesday June 23 and Friday June 26 have been extended and will remain valid for travel until Tuesday June 30 to help customers affected by earlier disruption.
- The works follow a spell of intense heat earlier in the week that already reduced services, meaning the combined strain could lengthen queues at stations and complicate weekend south‑coast travel plans.
