Major Industrial Fire Ravages Dyfatty Unit in Swansea City Centre

Investigators will examine the severely damaged building to establish the cause of the blaze.

Overview

  • The fire broke out at an industrial unit on Dyfatty Street near Swansea railway station, with first emergency calls received at about 12:30pm on Saturday, July 4.
  • Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue deployed ten appliances including six main pumps, two water bowsers, an aerial appliance and a high-volume pump to fight the blaze.
  • Firefighters brought the incident under control by mid-to-late afternoon but the building was left severely damaged and crews prevented the fire from spreading to the neighbouring property.
  • South Wales Police closed Dyfatty Street and surrounding routes to traffic and urged people to avoid the area as thick black smoke caused citywide disruption and residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut.
  • Road closures and an ongoing inquiry into the origin of the fire remain in place and investigators and emergency services will continue damage assessment and safety checks in the coming hours.
