Major Fire Severely Damages Two Homes in Old Colwyn

Investigators are working to establish the cause as emergency teams support displaced families.

Overview

  • North Wales Fire and Rescue were called at 12:41pm on Monday after reports of a property fire on Peulwys Lane that spread to a neighbouring house.
  • Fire crews deployed five appliances and an aerial ladder platform while police closed nearby roads and the public were asked to avoid the area.
  • All occupants of both properties have been accounted for and no injuries were reported, but the two homes were badly damaged and families have been displaced.
  • Local residents and Cllr Cheryl Carlisle reported hearing an explosion at the scene, but officials have not confirmed that description and the cause remains under formal investigation.
  • Conwy County Council and housing association Cartrefi Conwy are arranging emergency accommodation and community collections have been started to help affected families while crews continue their response.
